Kitchen garden

The CVPS Kitchen garden is a member of the Stephanie Alexander kitchen Shared Table which enables us to use SAKGP online resources and lesson planning to deliver a well rounded, informative and fun food growing education to CVPS students on a weekly basis.

The kitchen gardens are maintained by a dedicated team of volunteers drawn from the Mudgee community. These volunteers also run Lunchtime Garden sessions in order to extend the learning of CVPS students in learning areas including sustainability, recycling, healthy eating and healthy lifestyle through gardening.

The kitchen gardens are located behind the staff room and we welcome involvement by anyone interested in sharing their food garden knowledge or who simply would like to help.

We are the owners of a huge worm farm, the Cudgee Crawlers Mothership, which was kindly donated by Living Earth Supplies Nursery. This breeding tank is a major part of our reduce, reuse, recycle routine in the veggie patch. We also have half a dozen smaller worm farms available for any backyard.

We are the owners of four compost tumblers provided to us through the Mid-Western Regional Council Environment Grants Initiative in 2014. These have enabled us to compost almost one tonne of crunch and sip waste PER TERM onsite at CVPS. This compost is then recyled back to the kitchen garden beds helping us on the journey to a self-sustaining veggie garden.

Cudgee Kitchen Garden is an ever evolving space at our school and one where we hope all students can benefit from having access to an edible outdoor learning area that is constantly changing with the seasons.
